OBX Things
Terms of use
These terms cover the OBX Things website and app: the guide, things you submit, rental listings and inquiries, and partner booking links.

Using OBX Things
OBX Things is a locally written guide to the Outer Banks, from Corolla to Ocracoke. By using the website or the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Questions go to hello@obxthings.com.
The guide
Articles, maps, hours, prices, ferry notes, weather, specials, and event listings are for general information. They can be incomplete or out of date. Check the business, organizer, ferry operator, or official source before you rely on them. Beach, sound, and road conditions are your responsibility.
The AI guide, when it is available, is an automated assistant. It can be wrong. It is not safety, legal, medical, or professional advice. A conversation with the guide does not create a booking.
Accounts
An account uses the email address you give us and a one-time sign-in link. You are responsible for that inbox. Do not request links for an address you do not control. We may refuse or close an account that abuses the service, interferes with it, or breaks these terms.
Things you submit
You may send an event, a business note, a rental inquiry, a host listing, photos, and messages to the guide. You confirm that you have the right to send that material and that it is not unlawful.
You give OBX Things a non-exclusive license to store, display, edit, and remove what you submit so we can run the guide. An event or listing is not public until it is accepted. We can decline or take down a submission. Do not include someone else's personal information unless you have a reason to, and they would expect it.
Rental listings and inquiries
OBX Things is a directory and an intermediary. We list stays and pass inquiries to hosts. We do not own the homes, and we are not the landlord, the property manager, or a party to the rental contract. Hosts are independent.
An inquiry is a message to the host. It is not a reservation and not a contract with OBX Things. The host decides availability, price, house rules, and whether to reply.
On-platform booking stays off until it is explicitly enabled. When it is on, Stripe processes the payment, the host provides the lodging, and OBX Things may keep a service fee or commission shown at checkout. Canceling or changing a paid stay follows the terms shown before you pay, and the host's rules for the home.
Affiliate links
Some stays send you to a partner site, such as the host's own booking page or a listing network. We may earn a commission if you book there. That commission does not increase the price the partner charges. After you leave OBX Things, the partner's terms and privacy policy apply. We do not control that site's availability, price, or cancellation rules.
Specials and events
Specials, happy hours, prices, hours, and events are supplied by businesses, organizers, and public sources. They change. A listing on OBX Things is not a promise that the offer is still running, that the price is current, or that the event will happen. Confirm with the restaurant, shop, or organizer before you go.
Acceptable use
- Do not use the service to break the law or to harm someone.
- Do not send false listings, fake inquiries, or content you have no right to share.
- Do not try to access another person's account or to disrupt the site, the API, or the app.
- Do not scrape or automate requests in a way that degrades the service for other readers.
Disclaimers
The website, the app, and the guide are provided as available. We do not guarantee that they are complete, current, or free of errors, or that a host, partner, or organizer will honor a detail published here.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, OBX Things and the people who operate it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, arising from your use of the guide, a host's stay, a partner booking, an event or special that changed, or a decision you made from the service. If the law does not allow that limit, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law does allow. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law says cannot be limited.
Governing law
The governing law and the courts for disputes under these terms are not selected in this version. That choice will be added here after it is confirmed. Until this section is updated, these terms do not pick a state, country, or court, and they do not waive a right the law gives you.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page and changing the effective date. Continued use after that date means you accept the update. Write to hello@obxthings.com.
