The third annual Ocracoke Red Drum Shootout is set for October 2–3, 2026. Organized by residents and friends of Ocracoke, the two-day fishing tournament combines competitive red drum categories with a boat parade, live music, a meal, and an awards gathering.
Berkley Barn at 58 Water Plant Road in Ocracoke serves as the event hub. The organizer says packet pickup, onsite registration, the captains meeting, and supporting activities will be held there. How the 2026 Competition Is Structured
Anglers can enter through four progressively priced levels. Level 1 general registration costs $200 and awards first, second, and third place for the longest fish. It also includes separate first-place recognition for the longest fish caught by a lady angler and by a youth angler age 12 or younger.
Level 2 adds $200 and requires Level 1 entry. This “Most Releases Calcutta” awards the anglers who release the greatest number of red drum measuring more than 27 inches, with prizes for first through third place.
Level 3 costs another $200 and requires entry in Levels 1 and 2. It pays first, second, and third for the longest red drum. Level 4, called “First Fifty,” adds $200 and requires participation in the first three levels. It is a winner-take-all category for the first qualifying released red drum measuring at least 50 inches. If no fish qualifies, that prize money rolls into the category at the next tournament.
The tournament retains 20 percent of entry fees, with 80 percent allocated to the prize pools. For Levels 2 and 3, the published payout split is 50 percent for first, 30 percent for second, and 20 percent for third.
