Things to Do on the Outer Banks For Monday March 19th

Spring is so close we can practically hear the flip-flops slapping down the boardwalk, and honestly, it cannot get here soon enough. Until then, this is the kind of late-winter Outer Banks day that still earns you a jacket in the morning, sunglasses by lunch, and at least one long stare at the ocean while you remind yourself better beach days are coming.

Today’s Weather

It’s a bright but chilly start across the northern beaches. Nags Head was sitting at 41°F around 7:55 a.m. with a northeast wind near 9 mph and a wind chill of 35. The forecast calls for a sunny day with a high near 52, north winds around 8 to 10 mph, and gusts up to 15 mph. Tonight stays mostly clear, with temperatures dropping back to around 41.

Sunrise, Water, and Beach Conditions

Sunrise in Nags Head was right around 7:07 a.m. this morning. On the water side, the latest NWS coastal update listed water temperatures at 44° at Duck Pier and Jennette’s Pier, with Avon Pier warmer at 56°. At Oregon Inlet, high tide is around 8:24 a.m., low tide around 2:13 p.m., and the evening high tide rolls back in at about 8:58 p.m.

Special Weather Note

Today’s main weather headline is marine, not dramatic: the National Weather Service has a Small Craft Advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Friday for the coastal waters from Oregon Inlet to Ocracoke Inlet because seas are running 4 to 6 feet. Translation: fine day for a beach walk, not the best day for small-boat bragging rights.

National Chocolate Caramel Day on the OBX

If National Chocolate Caramel Day has you suddenly needing fudge, taffy, or something outrageously sweet, the Outer Banks is more than ready for the assignment. Forbes Candies alone has four OBX locations and is known for saltwater taffy, fudge, and chocolate treats. In Duck, Candy and Corks brings the classic-candy-and-taffy energy, while Sugar Kingdom leans all the way into big, colorful candy-store fun with chocolates, gummies, bottled sodas, and more. In other words: if your beach vacation somehow requires caramel before noon, you are in the right place.

Memorial Day Weekend Countdown

And because the Outer Banks brain is always at least one season ahead, here’s your mildly ridiculous but completely necessary countdown: we’re 64 days from the Friday kickoff of Memorial Day weekend, and 67 days from Memorial Day itself. Not even spring yet, and already half of us are mentally pricing ice, sunscreen, and burger buns.

Coming Up: The Big OBX Ultra

I looked up the race name for you: it’s Blackbeard’s Revenge 100 Ultra & Relay, happening March 21–22 in the Outer Banks. The event includes 100-mile, 100K, and relay options, and the course runs point-to-point from Corolla to Hatteras. So if you spot a whole lot of determined people looking faster and more focused than the rest of us this weekend, that’s why.

Planning That Spring Break Trip to The Outer Banks

Outer Banks vacations are supposed to feel relaxing, not like a full-time job in the family group text. Between arrival details, grocery plans, dinner ideas, beach days, fishing trips, and figuring out who is doing what, trip planning can get messy fast.

That is exactly why a shared planning tool helps so much. OBX vacation guides regularly highlight the value of organizing homes, activities, and meals in one place before the trip even begins.

That’s where ClanCal comes in. Before your trip, use ClanCal at clancal.com to keep everyone on the same page. Then make sure everyone in your group has it downloaded while they’re on vacation, too.

hat way, instead of digging through texts and emails, your crew can quickly check plans and also keep up with daily restaurant specials, local events, and helpful OBX info while you’re here. It’s a simple way to spend less time organizing and more time actually enjoying the beach.
