Things to Do on the Outer Banks For Monday March 18th

The shamrocks may be a day old, but the St. Patrick’s Day spirit is still hanging around the beach like glitter you keep finding after a party. And honestly, that feels about right for the Outer Banks in March: a little breezy, a little chilly, and still full of reasons to get out, grab a bite, and enjoy the day.
Today’s Weather
It’s a cool, classic March day across the Outer Banks. Nags Head was sitting in the low 40s this afternoon, and the National Weather Service forecast called for partly sunny skies today with a high near 49. Tonight stays on the chilly side with partly cloudy skies and a low around 39, so if your evening plans include a walk on the beach, dinner out, or one last sunset stop, bring the jacket and maybe the “I thought it felt warmer in the sun” backup layer too.
Sunrise, Water, and Weather Notes
Sunrise this morning was at 7:08 a.m., and sunset lands at 7:12 p.m., which means we’ve now stretched daylight to just over 12 hours. Jennette’s Pier reported a water temperature of 43 degrees today, so yes, the ocean is still very much in its “look, don’t leap” era. The main official weather note is for boaters: the marine forecast near Oregon Inlet has a Small Craft Advisory in effect through Thursday evening, with seas around 5 feet tonight and around 4 feet Thursday.
National Sloppy Joe Day… But Maybe Not for You
Sure, it’s National Sloppy Joe Day, but the good news is the Outer Banks has no shortage of better-looking options that won’t end with sauce on your sleeve. If the thought of a sloppy joe does absolutely nothing for you, you’ve got plenty of backup plans: a brewpub stop at Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills, oceanfront hangs at Fish Heads in South Nags Head, a meal with a view at The Black Pelican in Kitty Hawk, or a pub-style detour to Howard’s Pub over on Ocracoke. Around here, bars, taverns, pubs, and restaurants are basically their own local pastime.
Spring Countdown
Spring officially arrives Friday, March 20, at 10:46 a.m. EDT. That is two days away. Two. After this long winter, that feels less like a date on the calendar and more like a community-wide emotional support milestone. We are not just counting down the days anymore, friends. We are counting down the coffees, the sunsets, the jacket zips, and probably the minutes too.
