Things To Do On The Outer Banks For April 28, 2025

April is in full bloom across the Outer Banks, and this week marks the perfect blend of spring energy, local flavor, and outdoor adventure from Carova to Ocracoke. Here’s what’s happening and what you won’t want to miss:

Outer Banks Senior Games & Silver Arts

  • April 28 kicks off the Outer Banks Senior Games, running through May 9. Local athletes 50+ compete in everything from track and field to pickleball, while the Silver Arts Competition (April 28–30) showcases painting, photography, writing, and more. Catch the Silver Arts Showcase for a look at the creative side of our OBX seniors5.

Spring’s Final Festivals & Events

  • Outer Banks Bike Week wraps up on April 27, so if you’re seeing packs of motorcycles cruising Highway 12, give a wave! The week’s been packed with scenic rides, live music, and vendor events-an annual tradition for riders and spectators alike.

  • Ocracoke Island Scallywag Race Weekend (April 26–27): Pirate-themed 5K, 10K, and half marathon along Ocracoke’s shoreline. Even if you’re not running, the festive atmosphere is worth the ferry ride.

  • Earth Day Celebrations: Beach cleanups and Earth Fair OBX just wrapped up, but you’ll still find environmental exhibits and a renewed focus on keeping our beaches pristine.

What’s Next?

  • May brings the OBX Rod and Custom Festival (May 2–3), Nags Head Woods 5K (May 10), and Ocracoke’s British Cemetery Ceremony (May 10). Start planning now if you want to catch these uniquely local happenings.

Local Tip

  • Fishing is heating up as water temps rise-expect yellowfin tuna, bluefish, and trout offshore, and crabbing is picking up in the sounds.

  • Spring means restaurants are reopening and new menus are out-perfect time to try that spot you’ve been eyeing since winter.

Weather Watch

  • April’s weather is classic OBX: breezy, sunny, and just right for beach walks or a stroll through Manteo’s waterfront.
