Things to Do on the OBX - March 18, 2025

Hello beach lovers! Welcome to another breathtaking day on the Outer Banks, where the sand is golden, the ocean is vast, and the memories are endless. Whether you're a lucky local or a winter visitor escaping the mainland monotony, there's something magical about these barrier islands, even in March when the crowds are thin and the beaches are yours to explore. Today's our chance to breathe in that salty air and remember why we love this coastal paradise, even when we need to bundle up a bit!

Today's Outer Banks Weather

This Tuesday brings us a mostly sunny day with a high of 54°F and a low of 40°F. It feels like about 46°F thanks to our famous OBX winds blowing at a brisk 19 mph. The sun rose at 7:07 am and will set at 7:12 pm, giving us a full 12 hours and 4 minutes of daylight to enjoy.

The water temperature is sitting at 54.1°F today - definitely wetsuit territory for all but the most adventurous swimmers! UV index is moderate at 5, so don't forget that sunscreen even in March.

Counting Down the Days Till Summer

Can you believe we're only 10 weeks away from Memorial Day weekend? That's right - just 69 days until the unofficial start of summer when our beaches will come alive with visitors, the restaurants will be buzzing, and the summer season kicks into high gear. Now's the perfect time to enjoy the quiet beaches before the summer rush begins!

Spring is Just Around the Corner

If you're tired of the March chill, good news! Spring officially arrives with the Vernal Equinox in just 2 days - March 20, 2025, at 5:01 am. We're already seeing longer days and (slightly) warmer temperatures, with more sunshine on the way as we head toward April. Those spring flowers will be popping up before you know it!

National Awkward Moments Day

Today is National Awkward Moments Day, and where better to celebrate than the Outer Banks, home to some of the most gloriously awkward moments Mother Nature can provide? We've all been there - that moment when an unexpected wave knocks you off your feet and suddenly your bathing suit is... elsewhere. Or when a mighty OBX gust flips your beach umbrella into the next county, sending you on an awkward sprint down the beach shouting "Sorry! That's mine!" to confused sunbathers.

Let's not forget the classic awkward moment of walking back to your beach spot after a swim only to realize it's actually someone else's identical blue towel with a similar-looking cooler. Or stepping onto what you thought was solid sand only to sink ankle-deep into a puddle while trying to look cool in front of that attractive stranger.

Today, instead of cringing at these memories, let's embrace them! After all, the greatest Outer Banks stories aren't about the perfect days - they're about that time you tried to eat ice cream during a windstorm and ended up with it all over your face, or when your carefully constructed sandcastle was demolished by a rogue wave just as you were taking the victory photo.

Share your most awkward OBX moment on social media today with #OBXAwkwardDay - because we're all in this together, awkwardness and all!

Stay sandy, friends!
