National Clam Chowder Day

Today we celebrate National Clam Chowder Day, and what better place to do so than the Outer Banks, home of the famous Hatteras Clam Chowder! Unlike its creamy New England counterpart, Hatteras Clam Chowder is a clear, broth-based soup that lets the clam flavor shine through.

Recipe:

  • 4 dozen small clams, chopped

  • 4 slices bacon, diced

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 4 potatoes, diced

  • 2 cups water

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cook bacon until crisp. Add onions and cook until translucent. Add potatoes and water, simmer until potatoes are tender. Add clams and cook for 5 more minutes. Season to taste.

Chocolate Covered Nut Day

It's also Chocolate Covered Nut Day! While we don't have specific candy store recommendations, the Outer Banks is home to several charming shops where you can indulge in this sweet treat. Take a stroll through our quaint towns and you're sure to find some delectable chocolate-covered nuts to satisfy your cravings.
