47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show
The vibrant arts community of Dare County, North Carolina, is once again abuzz with excitement as the 47th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show opened its doors on February 7, 2025. This long-standing exhibition, hosted by Dare Arts, continues to honor the legacy of Frank Stick while showcasing the diverse talents of local artists.
A Tribute to Frank Stick's Enduring Influence
Frank Stick (1884-1966), the show's namesake, left an indelible mark on the Outer Banks region. Known initially for his captivating outdoor-themed illustrations in magazines and books, Stick's later years were dedicated to land development and conservation efforts. His crowning achievement was spearheading the creation of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the first of its kind in the United States.
"Frank Stick's vision for preserving the natural beauty of the Outer Banks continues to inspire artists and conservationists alike," said Emily Weiss, Executive Director of Dare Arts. "This annual show is our way of celebrating his multifaceted legacy."
Dare Arts: Nurturing Creativity in the Community
As the organizer of the Frank Stick Memorial Art Show, Dare Arts plays a crucial role in fostering the local arts scene. The nonprofit organization offers year-round programs aimed at nurturing creativity and providing opportunities for artists of all backgrounds.
"Our mission extends beyond just showcasing art," Weiss explained. "Through initiatives like the 'Power of Art' program, we're reaching underserved communities and demonstrating the transformative power of artistic expression."
This Year's Exhibition Highlights
The 2025 edition of the Frank Stick Memorial Art Show features an impressive array of works from both established and emerging artists. Visitors can expect to see a diverse range of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, photography, and mixed media pieces.
Key highlights of this year's show include:
The Eure Best in Show Award, presented to local artist Marina Sanchez for her evocative seascape "Hatteras Dawn"

A Platform for Emerging Talent
The show has long been recognized as a launching pad for up-and-coming artists in the region. This year, a new "Young Visionaries" category has been introduced to showcase works by artists under 25.
"We're committed to nurturing the next generation of artistic talent," said Weiss. "The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show provides a unique platform for these young artists to gain exposure and connect with the broader arts community."
Preserving a Legacy, Inspiring the Future
As the Frank Stick Memorial Art Show enters its 47th year, it continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. The exhibition not only celebrates the rich artistic heritage of the Outer Banks but also looks to the future, inspiring new generations of artists and conservationists.
The show will run until March 7, 2025, at the Dare Arts Gallery in Manteo. Admission is free, with guided tours available on weekends. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual gallery tour is accessible through the Dare Arts website.
